Watch the Process: Hidden Places Journal Page

So inspiring - makes me want to get out my supplies and play! (well, almost)

IT'S TIME FOR THE PONY EXPRESS!

For the millions of people who are unaware of the roundup process, here it is: The Bureau of Land Management, a branch of the Department of the Interior, has scheduled the removal of America’s wild horses and are attempting to change the grazing rights to be cattle only on the BLM owned land, which leave our wild horses homeless. 100 years ago there were 2 million horses. Now, because of these roundups, there are only 30,000 left. They contract low-flying helicopters to taunt and scare the mustangs, separating them from their families, and eventually coerced into tiny pens. The mustangs are then taken off to holding facilities where they no longer have room to roam anymore. They will be moved to a short-term holding facility for up to three years if not adopted out or sold to a buyer that intends on using the wild horse for slaughter.

Register your objection to this ridiculous, inhumane practice by clicking here:  THE PONY EXPRESS - deadline 1st September.

Life isn't about how to survive the storm,
but how to learn to dance in the rain.

DEFENDERS OF WILDLIFE

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it wants to buy 3,000 dogs from breeders in order to increase its force of canines who sniff out explosives, cash, and drugs. With thousands of homeless dogs who would make excellent candidates for the program already in animal shelters across the country, the DHS should follow the lead of New England Assistance Dog Services and many police departments and fill its ranks with dogs adopted from animal shelters and breed rescue groups instead.  SIGN THE PETITION!

BRINDLEBERRY 2010

Had a fantastic time at the weekend open air concert, camping and charity event in aid of Derian House Childrens and St Catherine's Hospices, Chorley, Lancashire.  Many thanks to everyone who contributed, especially Norm (my big bro) and Mandy, the best double act EVER!  Entertainment was provided by many bands who appeared free of charge, including SEAMUS MCLOUGHLIN,  THE CELLAR MACHINE , SMALL WORLD, DOLLFACE, THE MOOS, PUMELA ANDERSON, DAN WILDE, COLOUR ME BLIND ETC.

Despite the bouts of rain (typical English summer), which made getting stuck in the mud inevitable (both cars and wellies), it was lots of fun -  the "mud pit dancers" provided some hilarious entertainment at the end of the evening!  There were side stalls and a raffle (prizes all donated free), a magician, throw a wellie competition, tug-o-war (go you TOP LOCK TUGGERS!), kids football area and bouncy castle, splat a rat (not a real one of course) and more.  Glow sticks and Chinese lanterns lit up the night (there was a bit of a panic at one point when one landed on the marquee but luckily no damage was done) and mainly things went without a hitch.

Here's a couple of pics but there are more on my FLICKR :

Update on Tyson

Had some great news a couple of days ago, Tyson, the stray cat has found a new home!  A middle aged gentleman recently lost his elderly cat and has adopted him.  He'll be living in a ground floor flat with a large enclosed garden area all to himself.  Many, many thanks to Dinah at Raynauds Bank animal sanctuary for giving him a new start in life.   Now Flopsy can sleep safely ...

Where did the Summer go?

Even since they announced a "drought" in the north of England we've had nothing but RAIN!   Thought my blog might as well match the weather! (blaaah)  Needless to say, I've been neglecting my blog recently as we've been having some work done to the house - a new conservatory, which is looking great but not quite finished.   Tomorrow the wall between the kitchen and the dining area is being removed which will really open up the space - it tends to feel a little claustrophobic as the kitchen is so small.  I've been wanting to do this for a LOOOOONG time so I can't wait. Next week the flooring will be done, then I can start doing the kitchen makeover (changing cabinet doors, worktops etc).  We'll have to see how far we can stretch the budget!
